MEET KELLEN

Kellen Hughes, PhD, BCBA-D is a licensed psychologist and board-certified behavior analyst. Having served as an undergraduate clinician for the Autism Place through Illinois State University, she was inspired to pursue a doctorate in school psychology. She graduated from the School Psychology PhD program at Oklahoma State University in 2014 after completing an internship at the Illinois School Psychology Internship Consortium. She worked as a school psychologist for the Great Prairie Area Education Agency in southeast Iowa for three years. During her education and practice as a school psychologist, Dr. Hughes had extensive training and experience in assessment, intervention, and consultation for academic difficulties and challenging behavior; special education eligibility determination; and comprehensive psychological evaluations. She also served as a systems-level consultant for a statewide multi-tiered system of support funded by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

In 2017, Dr. Hughes began a postdoctoral fellowship through the Iowa Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (ILEND) program at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC) in the Stead Family Children’s Hospital Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD) as well as the Child and Adult Psychiatry departments. During her fellowship, Dr. Hughes gained knowledge and experience in the CDD’s Biobehavioral Outpatient and Day Treatment clinics conducting various types of functional assessments and designing and implementing treatment for severe and challenging behaviors in children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders and other congenital conditions. She was also part of a multidisciplinary autism diagnostic team and assisted with behavioral consultation with caregivers of adults with intellectual disabilities. Additionally, Dr. Hughes was trained in Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) by Dr. Douglas Woods through the Tourette Association of America’s (TAA) Tourette Syndrome Behavior Therapy Institute (TS-BTI). She is a certified CBIT provider through the TAA.

Upon completion of her fellowship, Dr. Hughes and her husband moved back to Stillwater to raise their growing family. She began working at Cornerstone Behavioral Health and Pediatric Therapies in Edmond, OK in 2019 and has recently joined Stillwater Counseling Center to be closer to home. When she isn’t working, Dr. Hughes enjoys spending time with her family, attending church gatherings, reading, quilting, exercising, and listening to podcasts.

At SCC, Dr. Hughes provides CBIT therapy and comprehensive psychological evaluations for children with developmental delays. She accepts BCBS, HealthChoice, Stillwater Collaborative Care/WebTPA, and private pay. Dr. Hughes is happy to provide a superbill to clients who are out of network.
